Rent Guarantees and Landlord Accreditation
You might not think the two had much in common, but they do!
That is because they were the Two subjects covered at Portsmouth & District Private Landlords Association live meeting at the Innlodge last night
I was privileged to be invited to speak on rent guarantees. My slides are on the PDPLA website and the copyright belongs to them, but as a sneak preview if any landlords would like a taster, I have put the 3 most important slides on a PDF report, so email me and I will be happy to send them to you, as well as give you a link to our Flats In Southsea blog, updated regularly, for more information and tips to turn you from a good landlord to a great one.

Using rent guarantees can be a great way of preventing loss, but for it to work the key is in the preparation, which is what I covered in my talk last night. The 18 slides I presented cover all the information you need.
The main speaker was our Chairman, the truly inspirational Martin Silman. He spoke on Landlord Accreditation and gave an update on proposals he is working on with Portsmouth City Council. As a landlord, particularly if you are a 1-2 property landlord, accreditation may not be top of your wish list (although I think single property & small portfolio landlords potentially have the most to gain).
His proposals, now adopted and agreed by all landlords present are a genuine and fresh alternative to a licensing scheme and a chance to work with the authority rather than another licensing scheme (the last one was perceived as missing the rouges and enforcement of very minor regulations against already good landlords, the content of notice boards being a well known example) His presentation is also on the PDPLA website www.pdpla.com
